Staffn-Alm

⭐ Our tip Mountain inn πŸ“ ~1 h ascent

A popular mountain inn on the way up the Hochplatte. Ideal for a refreshment stop on the ascent or as a hiking destination in its own right. From the valley station of the Hochplattenbahn, a lovely forest path leads up to the Staffn-Alm.

Our favourite stop on the mountain – we round off almost every hike here.

Staudacher Alm

Hidden gem πŸ“ 1.5–2 h ascent

A true hidden gem on the north side of the Hochgern (1,150 m). A rustic alpine pasture hut built from natural stone, with fantastic views of the Hochgern and ZwΓΆlferspitz. Famous for its hearty Bavarian snacks – served on wooden boards, no cutlery. The dripping bread and the home-baked cakes are legendary.

Schnappenkirche

⭐ Our tip Sight πŸ“ 1,100 m altitude

A baroque mountain church at 1,100 m, dedicated to Saint Wolfgang. Built 1637–1640 on behalf of the Herrenchiemsee monastery. From the picnic bench in front of the church you can enjoy a dreamy view over the Chiemgau and Lake Chiemsee. A popular hiking destination with several routes up from Marquartstein and Staudach-Egerndach.

Our classic for the first day of any stay – from the picnic bench you can see all the way to Lake Chiemsee.

A chairlift right in Marquartstein – a comfortable way up the Hochplatte. In summer the starting point for mountain hikes, in winter for skiing and the 3.1 km natural toboggan run.

Schmugglerweg & Entenlochklamm

Circular walk πŸ“ Schleching, ~7 km

A cross-border themed trail from Schleching to the pilgrimage church of Maria Klobenstein – across two suspension bridges high above the turquoise Tiroler Ache river, including a 33 m rope bridge. Loop of approx. 5.4 km, around 3 h – an adventure for children too.

Geigelstein (1,808 m)

Mountain tour πŸ“ Ettenhausen, ~8 km

The "flower mountain of the Chiemgau": a nature reserve with exceptionally rich alpine flora and a magnificent summit panorama. From Schleching-Ettenhausen via the Wuhrsteinalm, the ascent takes approx. 3–4 h (loop approx. 15 km, 1,200 m elevation gain); refreshments at the Wuhrsteinalm and the Priener HΓΌtte.

Piesenhausener Hochalm & Rachlalm

Alpine pasture hike πŸ“ Start at the Hochplattenbahn

Two working alpine pasture huts in the Hochplatte area, right above the village: the Piesenhausener Hochalm (1,338 m) has been farmed by the same family for around 550 years – enjoy a hearty Bavarian snack with views all the way to Lake Chiemsee. The family-friendly Rachlalm (920 m) is an easy walk along the forest road. Food and drink only when the huts are staffed in summer.
